A one-of-a-kind basket sculpture by renowned basketmaker Leon Niehues. The vessel is made of split wood in light and dark tones. Niehues is known for basket-weaving techniques he learned from traditional basketmakers or Northwest Arkansas. His signature is inside the basket, ‘Niehues #36-2004’. Niehues’ work is represented in collections around the United States, including Arizona State University Art Museum, the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and the permanent collection of the White House, among others.
