An oil painting on canvas winter landscape by listed artist Wallace Fahnestock (Massachusetts; 1877 – 1962).This painting depicts a forest landscape with conifer trees. The landscape is covered in a blanket of snow rendered in cool blue tones. This piece is signed in paint to the lower left corner. To the verso, is artist name, birth year, and birthplace is present to the bottom of the frame.
Wallace Fahnestock was born in Pennsylvania and became a prominent landscape painter. He studied under William Merritt Chase, Frank DuMond, and Arthur Dow in New York City. During his travels through the West and Southwest United States, he began to paint Native American figures and the Grand Canyon. Fahnestock had is studio and home in Dorset, Vermont and many of his paintings are of this region.
