An oil on canvas abstract composition by well-listed Ohio artist James Yoko (1916-2004), dated 1958. This Cubist-style work depicts an angular, crumpled, non-objective arrangement of orange, yellow, black and otherwise muted and neutral pigments. The piece is signed ‘Yoko’ and dated to the lower right corner. To the verso, is a label that reads ‘Mr. and Mrs. James Yoko’ as well as an accession number. Housed without glass in a painted white wooden floating frame.
James Yoko was born in Youngstown, Ohio and was awarded a scholarship to the Dayton Art Institute where he earned a BA in Fine Arts. He continued his education by taking post-graduate courses with John King. His work has been shown in New York, Pennsylvania, Miami Valley Cooperative Gallery, Rutledge Gallery, and Antioch College.
