Item Details
An abstract oil painting on canvas titled La Salamande, created in 1961-2 and signed ‘Matte’. This work features heavily layered smears and splotches of various colors slashed across the surface. Colors are layered with thick impasto and roughly troweled, providing a rough textural surface. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right, and handwriting to the verso reads the title. It is presented in a simple brown wood frame with a gold-tone border.

- craquelure throughout paint; scratches throughout sides and corners of frame.
