Cincinnati's "Big Pig Gig" Pig Sculpture "Get The Blues" Pig
Item Details
An original fiberglass pig sculpture from Cincinnati’s ‘Big Pig Gig’ in 2000. Get The Blues is a whimsical depiction of the characters from The Blues Brothers movie. This surprisingly lightweight turquoise pig dons a painted black suit and hat with welded oversized ‘Ray-Bans’. His back bears a Get The Blues blue ribbon and is signed to a hind hoof. Displayed in Covington’s Mainstrasse Village during the summer of 2000 as part Cincinnati (Cin-sow-nati) Ohio’s ‘Great Big Pig Gig’ tour. The public art initiative brought local artists, businesses, arts organizations, schools and individuals together in an unprecedented way to have fun and to celebrate Cincinnati’s Porkopolis past. More than 400 decorated life-size fiberglass pigs were displayed in downtown Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky cities of Covington and Newport. Fifty local schools also participated by creating and displaying gig pigs. Please see the attached link for an archived interview with the artist Melissa Day.
