Hermann Kaulbach Original Oil Painting on Board
Item Details
An original antique oil painting on board by well-listed German genre painter Hermann Kaulbach (1846 – 1909). The painting depicts a young girl seated on a windowsill gazing down at a baby doll she cradles in her arms. The piece is painted in neutral shades of paint with soft edges and thoughtful blending. The painting is signed to the lower left. It is presented in a fanciful wooden frame with tiers of ornate cast surface embellishments, seamless corners, gilt finish, and a hanging wire. A small plaque attached to the base of the frame gives the artist’s name. Kaulbach taught as Professor of History Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, and was best-known for his portraits of children.
