Howard Terpning Limited Edition Giclee on Canvas "Long Shot"

A limited edition giclee on canvas titled Long Shot by well-listed artist Howard Terpning (American; b. 1927). This print depicts three men wearing clothing and a hairstyle a similar style to the Crow Indian tribe. One positions a rifle between two arrows to better his aim. This piece is numbered 23 out of an edition of 300 and is signed in ink and plate to the left corner. Presented without glass in an ornate wooden frame.

Howard Terpning was born in Illinois and received his formal training at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art as well as the American Academy of Art. He spent twenty-five years in New York creating illustrations for Time, Field and Stream, and Cosmopolitan. During the 1970’s Terpning left commercial work and moved to Arizona where be began to produce western paintings. His paintings primarily depicted Native Americans of the Great Plains during the nineteenth century. In 1979, Terpning was elected to the Cowboy Artist of America, a select group of painters dedicated to the western genre. He has become one of the best-known members of the group and has exhibited at the Cowboy Artists of America and showcases for contemporary western art.

The original work for the impression offered here was Terpning’s auction record, at nearly $1.4 million. Terpning is widely regarded as the most sought after living artist of Western subject matter.
