Vintage Donkey Rod Puppet Used by Sally Sellers

A vintage Marjorie Batchelder donkey rod puppet used by Sally Sellers, a well known marionette artist from the 1950’s and 1960’s. This donkey rod puppet features a wood and tin body construction. Head, neck, and legs are all solid wood pieces fitted to the body, handpainted in brown. The donkey’s head is decorated with brown leather detail for harness, mane, tail, and ear. Wire pull to body makes the head move up and down. Circa 1950s.

Condition

Some wear consistent with age and use. Some scuffs and wear to paint and body. Some dents to metal on body. Wood rod at bottom is broken at base.
