1991-92 Marvin Finn Folk Art Carved and Painted Bird Sculptures

A pair of wooden bird sculptures by well-listed artist Marvin Finn. These abstract forms, constructed of cut wooden sheets upon square bases, depict vibrantly colored birds in purple and blue dots and stripes, with long yellow beaks. They are signed underneath ‘Finn’ in black ink, and dated either ‘91’ or ‘92’.
Marvin Finn (1913 – 2007) was born in Alabama but was a Louisville-based artist when he started producing his unique folk art in 1972. A tribute to his work is on display on the Louisville waterfront titled “Flock of Finns” and features 28 metal bird sculptures based on Finn’s work.
