Hand Knotted Turkish Tribal Accent Rugs
Item Details
A pair of hand-knotted Turkish tribal accent rugs. The rectilinear wool rugs in this lot are semi-antique, with some common design elements, including main borders that feature star motifs. The larger of the pair is rendered in a palette of red, ochre, ivory, and brown. It features a complex central medallion that nearly fills the rug’s red field. The medallion, field, and spandrels feature symbolic motifs including pinwheels, tree of life figures, florets, and stars. The smaller of the two rugs features two hexagonal medallions that also nearly fill the field; these medallions are populated with cruciform shapes, hooks, and, possibly, stylized human forms. The palette is salmon, blue, and ivory. Both rugs have double overcast edges and end in wool warp fringe. They are unmarked.
