Antique Gramophone Company Wind-Up Phonograph
Item Details
An antique Gramophone Company hand-crank phonograph. The Gramophone Company was founded in 1898 in London, England. In 1909, the company introduced new labels featuring the dog Nipper made famous by the artist Francis Barraud in his painting titled His Master’s Voice. This wind-up machine features intricately carved housing, a hand crank with wooden handle, a working turntable, a sound box, and a scalloped hand-painted horn with the embossed logo of Nipper. “His Master’s Voice” is printed below the embossing. The side of the phonograph features a color decal of the logo with “The Gramophone Co. Ltd.” printed below.
Condition
– for age. Operational when tested. Some marks and dents to the horn. The horn needs an adaptor, or repair, to fit the elbow into the back bracket.
Dimensions
– measured for shipping. The base measures approximately 19" wide x 10.25" high x 17" wide including the hand crank and controls. The horn measures approximately 19" in diameter x 20" deep.
