A blue colored pencil drawing portrait of a uniformed man by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997). This drawing depicts a uniformed man smoking a pipe and seated at a table. Signed by the artist in graphite to the lower right. Additionally, a small sketch of the image in graphite present to the lower right corner. Presented within white matting and wrapped in a plastic encasement.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
