19th Century Oil Painting on Canvas "School Teacher"
Item Details
An original 19th century oil painting on canvas by an anonymous artist, titled School Teacher. The classical painting depicts a crowd of bustling children surrounding an old man in an interior space made of stone. A wide window in the background looks out onto a forested hillside illuminated in glowing yellow light. The painting is unsigned. It is presented in a stunning antique mid-Victorian wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire. A small tag to the verso titles the piece.
Condition
- several areas of the piece have been patched and inpainted. Light accretion and discoloration to surface. Cracking and light loss of finish to frame.
