Important 111th Colored Infantry Officer's Presentation Sword

An important Officer’s Presentation sword, circa 1863, presented to First Sergeant Daniel Marcus Page, Company D of the 111th United States Colored Infantry. The Civil War-era Non-Commissioned Officer’s Model 1840 sword is from the Ames Sword Company in Chicopee Massachusetts and features a brass guard and a wire wrapped handle with a metal scabbard with brass mounts, engraved ‘Presented to 1st Sergeant Daniel Marcus Page, D Co. 111 U.S.C. Inf. Dec. 1863, For honorable service’ and the hook attachment for the frog. The sword is marked by the handle ‘U.S. J.C.W. 1861’ and on the back of the blade is ‘Ames, Chicopee’ This sword also has documentation of pension and years of service.
