An ornate handwoven wool Persian vase carpet. The rug features an elaborate central medallion, having frond-like scrolled edges around a central floral medallion in a palette of dark red, cream, and blue on an abrashed scarlet red field. The field is densely covered in decorative vase forms, floral palmettes, scrolled lancet leaves in a matching palette. It has crisply detailed corner spandrels, leading to a complex border system of bisected rondels and carnation motifs in the field colors. The primary border features large lotus blossoms and filler elements on a deep brown field, having contrasting red accents. the abrash is noticeable in the primary border. It has overcast edges and very short cotton fringe to either end. Unmarked.
