Léon Gaucherel "The Library of the Santa Scholastica Monastery in Subiaco" Etching
Item Details
An etching by Léon Gaucherel (1816–1886) after Theodor Josef Ethofer (1849–1915) titled The Library of the Santa Scholastica Monastery in Subiaco, 1879. This etching depicts two monks at study in a grand library. The artist’s signature is printed in plate to the lower left and faintly etched at upper right are the Latin words ‘TH EFOTHER, archiviodis scolastica, subiaco MDCCCLXXIX.’ A remarque depicts a rabbit and two frogs at the center of the outer border. The print is displayed in a dove gray mat with cut border and black bevel, as well as a silver-toned wood frame.
