An original 1971 signed oil painting on canvas by well-listed American painter Joachim Probst (1913 – 1980), titled Motif. The painting is number 140 from the artist’s Campbell Series. It depicts an abstract composition of thickly applied paint, sometimes rising over an inch off of the canvas’s surface. A Gothic-style window emerges from the abstraction in the center of the image, hinting at religious themes common in Probst’s work. The painting is signed, dated, and titled to the verso.
