An early Greek icon on a heavy panel, an 18th century polychrome representation of the Theotokos, the Life-Giving Wellspring,
Θεοτόκος Ζωοδόχος Πηγή. Within an arched reserve, the icon depicts the Theotokos, or Mother of God, along with the Christ-child, imbuing their sacred essence into a pooled spring, a central multi-lobed fountain filled with fish, from which the faithful drink. This panel is mounted on a maroon fabric lined backing in a gilt frame with a d-ring on verso for hanging.
