Collection of Chinese Soapstone Seals
Item Details
A collection of seven soapstone seals, each Chinese and 20th century. Each is carved to the front in a verdigris cameo tone, depicting dragons, birds, and scholars, respectively. Four are blank to the underside, while three are complete with a carved seal. One of these features an inscription on the verso which reads ‘Given in commemoration to the eminent doctor to keep for his magnificent example’ (赫醫師存念, 范光輝贈…, He yishi cun nian fan guanghu zeng), almost certainly given to Dr. Henry Heimlich while he was in China. The grouping also includes a carved horn box which holds the smallest seal.
