1876 Chromolithographic Scrolling Chart "A Chronological Chart of Ancient, Modern and Biblical History"

A stunning 1876 second edition chromolithograph on paper mounted to scrolling canvas, titled A chronological chart of Ancient, Modern and Biblical History. The piece was synchronized by American educator and historian Sebastian C. Adams (Oregon, 1825-1898). The first edition of this piece was printed in 1871, and this second edition was updated and printed five years later, both by Cincinnati, Ohio’s publishing group Strobridge & Company. This amazing 23-foot-long piece depicts an illustrated map of human existence, ranging from Adam and Eve to modern world leaders of the time. This edition is mounted to two wooden structures with spinning handles, allowing the piece to be mounted to a wall and scrolled through without having to have space to display the entire massive work. The lot also includes a small linen-bound key to a later edition of this work, titled Key to Adams’ Synchronological Chart of Universal History, written by John E. Colby, M.A. and published by Colby & Company, New York in 1880.
Condition
- paper is yellowed and has light creasing/foxing across. In remarkable condition for age.

- measured rolled shut. If extended fully, entire scroll measures about 23 feet.
