An antique table-style beaten biscuit brake, used for rolling dough to make old fashioned layered biscuits. ‘Beaten biscuits’ are a Southern culinary tradition first recorded in 1770 and are closely related to hardtack and oyster crackers. (See link.) This piece has a marble top and is on a wood table base, painted a cream color. The handle is wood.
