Item Details
An early 19th-century Persian gouache painting on paper. The work depicts a sporting scene with six men on horseback playing chogan, an early predecessor to polo. A pair of men look on from the upper right. The scene is bordered on three sides with a decorative blue, goldtone, and red border. The work is marked in the upper left corner. Under a single layer of mat, the item is presented under glass in a gilt wood frame.
Condition
- minor scuffing, scratching, and loss of gilt paint to frame; variety of small holes in paper, focused along lower left corner and upper left corner; dime-sized spot of foxing along mat.
