Tibetan Bronze of Three-Headed, Six-Armed Seated Bodhisattva

Item Details

An unidentified Buddhist bodhisattva, possibly an unusual tantric manifestation of Avalokiteśvara. Finely cast with traces of overall gilding, the figure is seated in dhyānāsana pose upon a lotus base. The figures three heads exhibit serene expressions and feature the urna third eye, representing vision and understanding of the divine worlds beyond our physical realm. His elongated earlobes are embellished with circular earrings, he wears a bodhisattva multi-leafed crown and several necklaces, armbands, and an elegantly draped sash. Each of his arms is held to the side with the fine cast hands held in the karaņa mudrā. The statue is hollow and unmarked.

Condition

Some darkening to patina, especially toward base.
