Item Details
An oil painting on canvas titled Still Life with Basket of Fruit by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), dated 1930. This work features a basket of fruit, two bottles, and a piece of fruit set on a brown surface. A blue curtain frames the upper left area of the composition. The composition is portrayed in a post-impressionist style with vibrant colors, thick dark outlines, painterly brushstrokes, and an overall sense of flatness throughout the composition. The painting is signed and dated in black to the lower right. Two descriptive labels, one from Cincinnati Art Galleries, LLC, are adhered to the verso. Presented in a gold-tone wood frame, it is ready to hang with picture wire to the verso.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
