Stan Galli Painting "Dancing Skunks" for Weyerhaeuser Advertising

A gouache painting on board “Dancing Skunks”, by listed artist Stan Galli (1912-2009). This painting, produced as part of the Weyerhaeuser advertising campaign depicts two western spotted skunks on front paws with hind legs in air. ‘S. Galli’ in the bottom left corner. This painting in particular was one of several Weyerhaeuser commissioned Galli to produce for the illustration of calendars and annual reports. Some, like this one had a subtle Christmas theme. This painting is presented matted, under glass, in a black wooden frame. It was part of the Weyerhaeuser corporate collection until 2014. A Weyerhaeuser Company Art Collection reads ‘Accession Number: 63; Artist: Galli, Stanley W.; Title: Dancing Skunks.’ This painting is accompanied by a Weyerhaeuser ‘Wildlife Calendar’ from the year 1974, featuring the painting on the front cover.
Stanley Galli was a prolific Californian illustrator whose work appeared in magazine stories and advertisements from the 1940s to the 1970s. In 1981, he was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Frame adding him to a list of members including Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, and Howard Pyle.
