Stan Galli Painting for Weyerhaeuser Advertising

A gouache painting on board “Barking Deer and Parrot” by listed artist Stan Galli (1912-2009). This painting was produced as part of an advertising campaign for Weyerhaeuser. It depicts a parrot flying by two running deer. It is signed to the lower left ‘S. Galli.’ The painting was in the Weyerhaeuser corporate collection until 2014. A label attached to back read ‘Weyerhaeuser Company Art Collection; Accession Number: 111; Artist: Galli, Stanley W.; Title: Barking Deer and Parrot.’ This painting is presented matted and in a silver tone wooden frame without glass. This painting is accompanied by a Weyerhaeuser 1973 Wildlife Calendar showcasing Galli’s art.
This painting helps illustrate the international presence of Weyerhaeuser operations. The Muntjacs, also known as barking deer, are small deer and the oldest known deer. Today, Muntjacs can be found in South Asia.
Stanley Galli was a prolific Californian illustrator whose work appeared in magazine stories and advertisements from the 1940s to the 1970s. In 1981, he was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Frame adding him to a list of members including Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, and Howard Pyle.
