Stan Galli Gouache Painting on Board Civil War Lincoln Painting
Item Details
A gouache painting on board by listed artist Stan Galli (1912-2009). This painting depicts a group of Civil War soldiers carrying wounded man through a crowd. A man with a top hat, possibly Lincoln, stands looking away, while a woman in a green dress looks on in anguish. This painting is signed ‘Stan Galli’ on the body of the ‘Lincoln’ figure. It was in the Galli family collection for over fifty years and it is presented matted, under glass, in a black wooden frame.
Stanley Galli was a prolific Californian illustrator whose work appeared in magazine stories and advertisements from the 1940s to the 1970s. In 1981, he was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Frame adding him to a list of members including Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, and Howard Pyle.
