A gouache painting on board by listed artist Stan Galli (1912-2009) This 1967 painting is a study for an illustration for “Kidnapping, Kill 3” in the Saturday Evening Post. It depicts a blond woman pushing three children into an open car door while male driver watches. ‘Kill 3’ was a 1965 episode of The ’Londoners and a 1967 book by Milton Shuman. A two-part short story ran Oct 21st and November 4th, 1967. Note that the car in this study has a traditional European look, while the large study (17WDC008-016) changed to an American-style Vauxhall car. This painting was owned by the Galli family for over fifty years. It is presented matted, in a black wooden frame, under glass.
Stanley Galli was a prolific Californian illustrator whose work appeared in magazine stories and advertisements from the 1940s to the 1970s. In 1981, he was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Frame adding him to a list of members including Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, and Howard Pyle.
