Ricardo Morin Abstract Ink and Watercolor Painting on Paper from "Sonata Series"
Item Details
An unframed abstract ink and watercolor painting on paper from the Sonata Series by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), dated 2003. This work features straight and curved lines delineated in black. The lines are juxtaposed against a cloudy background of various bleeding pigments and overall bluish-green hues dominating the composition. Some lines and shapes are shaded with gradated black, creating the appearance of three-dimensional form in areas of the composition. The work is signed and dated in black to the lower right. The composition remains unframed and unmounted. This particular work is one of six compositions in the Sonata Series that the artist had arranged together as a set on his website; other works in the arrangement include 16NYC037-029, 16NYC037-363, 16NYC037-365, 16NYC037-366.
Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. at the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
