Arturo Petrocelli Oil on Board Portraits of Neapolitan Boys

A pair of oil paintings on board by Italian artist Arturo Petrocelli (1856 – 1926). Each is a portrait of a scugnizzo, a Neapolitan street urchin, against a dappled gray background; one child, his striped shirt hanging off one shoulder, grins broadly at the viewer, while the other, wearing a cap and a sash, holds a white hand rolled cigarette in his mouth and fixes the viewer with a challenging glance. Both paintings are signed ‘Petrocelli’ and are presented in wooden frames with hanging wires.
Condition
- some surface wear to frames.
