Ricardo Morin Abstract Mixed Media Painting on Newspaper

Item Details

An unframed abstract mixed media painting on newspaper by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954). Comprised of oil paint, ink, and white-out on a newspaper page from the New York Times, this non-objective abstract work features a combination of smudged color, gestural brushstrokes, and sweeping delineated lines. Scattered throughout the work are straight and curving lines in black ink and highlighted in white and pink. Other colors include blue and accents of yellow. No signature, title, or date was found on the work, and it remains unframed and unmounted.

Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
