Excavated Confederate Side Knife

Item Details

A rather large Confederate side knife, excavated in the area of the Stones River battlefield site west of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the date of the battle from December 31, 1862 – January 2, 1863. The piece, of a single piece of steel, would have had a two piece handle originally, two rivets through the tang, with a cap on the end, the design of which suggests that it may have had a sweeping guard, quite common for Confederate pieces. Seemingly unmarked.
