An oil painting on linen titled Still Forty-two by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), dated 2012. As indicated to the verso, this non-objective abstract work is from a series titled Metaphors of Silence. This painting features diluted pigments, layered splotches, and sweeping gestural brushstrokes of cool colors, including purples, blues, grays, black and white. The work is accented with angular black and white linear marks and an orange stripe bordering the bottom of the composition. The piece has a second layer of linen adhered to the front of the stretched linen. The work is signed and dated in black ink to the verso.
Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. at the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others.
