An original oil painting on panel by Ohio-based artist Marlena Hebenstreit titled Billy Goat. This painting depicts a white billy goat in profile, staring to the right of the pictorial space with one yellow eye. Massive, curled horns emerge from its skull, the striations in the keratin rendered loosely, as is her shaggy white hair as well as the blurred grassy background behind her. Signed in paint to lower left, this work is presented in a dark frame with gilt interior border with hanging wire and artist information present to verso. Hebenstreit comes from a family of fine artists, and states that, ‘Looking at the books of the old masters was quality time spent with my parents and I learned to compare different artists and try to understand why some have stood the test of time’, providing a lifetime of exposure that clearly lends to her expertise.
