An antique first edition copy of Tom, The Bootblack by Horatio Alger, Jr. The book, the alternate title of which is The Road to Success, tells the story of Tom, a street ‘bootblack’ or shoe shine boy, and his quest to move up in the world. Horatio Alger Jr. was a Massachusetts native who wrote more than 130 books before his death in 1899. The book was copyrighted 1889, by A.L. Burt, Publisher, in New York.
