Antique Engraving of William Penn with Native Americans

Item Details

A hand-colored engraving after an original painting by Benjamin West (1738-1820), and engraved by John Boydell (1720-1804) titled William Penn’s Treaty with the Indians, when he founded the Province of Pennsylvania in North America, 1681. This work depicts a large number of members of the Lenni Lenape tribe, a group of Native Americans that reside today in Oklahoma, with a group of English settlers, their intimidating boats visible offshore.
