An abstract ink and watercolor painting on paper from Vortex Series by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), dated 2005. This work features curved lines and squiggles delineated in black. The lines are juxtaposed against a cloudy background of various bleeding colors and purple hues dominating the composition. The work is signed and dated in pencil twice – to the lower right and the lower left. The composition remains unframed and unmounted. This particular work is one of two compositions in the Vortex Series; see item 16NYC037-339 to view the other work from the series.
Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. at the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
