Ricardo Morin Abstract Ink and Watercolor Painting on Paper

Item Details

An unframed abstract ink and watercolor painting on paper by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), dated 2003. This work features straight and curved lines delineated in black, some of which are suggestive of geometric shapes. The black lines and shapes are juxtaposed against a cloudy background of various bleeding colors. Some lines and shapes are shaded with gradated colors, giving certain areas the appearance of three-dimensional form. The work is signed and dated in black to the lower right. The composition remains unframed and unmounted.

Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
