Ricardo Morin Abstract Mixed Media Painting on Newspaper

Item Details

An abstract mixed media painting on newspaper by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954), dated 2005. Comprised of oil paint, ink, and charcoal on a newspaper page from the New York Times, this abstract work features a combination of bleeding splotches of color and lines of various widths delineated in blue, red, pink, white, and brown. A large splotch of dark blue paint and charcoal occupies the left half of the newspaper page. The work is signed and dated in orange to the lower right, and it remains unframed and unmounted.

Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. at the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
