A serigraph on paper titled Hollywood Bowl Calif. by English-American Pop artist David Hockney (born 1937), dated 1966. Enclosed within an orange frame and yellow border, the piece depicts a sunset scene with overlapped centered arches situated against a black background, rendered with solid blocks of color and implied lines in red and orange tonalities, contrasting with black applications. Title is inscribed in a yellow font placed to the upper left area of the composition reading ‘Hollywood Bowl Calif.’ This work is graphite signed and dated by the artist to the lower right corner. It is presented behind glass, on an off-white floating mat and housed in a simple wood frame with an off-white finish. There is a wire attached to the verso and the piece comes ready to hang.
Hockney began his formal artistic training in his hometown at Bradford College of Art. Upon graduating in 1957, he further pursued his artistic career and moved to London, refining his technique while continuing his education at the Royal College of Art graduating in 1962. Hockney is considered a pioneer of the British pop art movement and has produced work in a wide variety of mediums, most notably his experimentation with photography and photo-collage.
