Joseph Marioni Acrylic on Board "The Garden of the Godfather"

Item Details

An abstract acrylic painting on board titled The Garden of the Godfather, Opus 19, Number 22 by well known American artist Joseph Marioni (b. 1943), dated 1972. This non-objective work features smudges of a grayish-blue in the central area of the canvas, spanning from the top to bottom of the composition. A faint cream color is heavily applied throughout the entire composition, creating an overall cloudy appearance. The paint provides an irregular texture and an abstract design that reveals the brushstrokes and varied opacity of the pigment. The work is signed with the artist’s initials and dated in pencil to the lower right. Handwriting to the verso states the title, artist, and date of the work. Presented in a silver-tone metal frame.

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Joseph Marioni has been based in New York since 1972. He is known for his abstract monochromatic paintings and his work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art, the Fogg Art Museum, and the Reina Sofia.
