An oil painting on canvas of a still life, created by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997) and dated 1930. This work features a still life arrangement including water pitchers, colorful and patterned fabric, and fruit on a table. The work is portrayed in a post-impressionist style with vibrant colors, thick dark outlines, and an overall sense of flatness throughout the composition. It is signed and dated in black to the lower right. Displayed in a gold-tone wood frame with an elaborate floral relief design, the work is ready to hang with picture wire to the verso.
Artist Biography
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
