Collection of Fine Japanese Satsuma Stoneware

A collection of fine Japanese Satsuma stoneware. This collection includes a short, rotund tripod vessel. Decorated with an elegant interior scene one one side and two gentlemen and two young boys taking a stroll on the other. The vessel is marked ‘Shūzan’ (秀山) dating the piece to circa 1915-1925. Also included is a small vase with affixed gold-tone handles on the neck. It is decorated with a group of women wearing lovely patterned kimonos on one side, and a group of men dressed for battle on the other. The underside is marked ‘Hodota’ (保土田), dating the piece to the Meiji period (1868-1912). The showcase piece is a tall, finely painted and richly embellished vase. A group of Buddhist arhats and bodhisattvas are delicately rendered with extensive use of gold-tone glaze and moriage detail. The vase is unmarked.
