A vintage original oil painting on canvas board by well-listed painter and Rookwood Pottery decorator Martin Rettig (Cincinnati, Ohio, 1869 – 1956). The floral still life painting, typical of Rettig’s body of work, depicts a handful of red roses spilling romantically from a woven basket. The painting is signed to the lower right. It is presented in a wooden frame with brushed gold tone finish and a hanging wire. Rettig studied with prolific painter Frank Duveneck and shared a studio space with Henry Farny in his early painting career, and was president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1918 – 1920.
Condition
- a few very small spots of accretion to edges of painting. Pinholes to corners from previous hanging.
