Van Hoople Signed Impasto Style Oil On Board Painting
Item Details
A signed impasto style oil on board painting by Van Hoople. The artwork painted in dark orange and black tones depicts a stone hallway with a fireplace, candlestand, and small trunk. It is signed at the lower left corner. The painting is presented with a smaller orange tone frame held inside a dark wood frame accented with a gold tone center border. A wire is affixed to the back for hanging.
Van Hoople (b.1934). Hoople attended the University of Texas and studied fine arts, after which he attended the Art Center in Los Angeles. He apprenticed for Cecil B. DeMill’s scenic art director, Mr. P.T. Blackburn, at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA. His paintings are characterized by a deep, almost high relief, impasto, as if the paint were cut with a gouge. They are markedly mid century, gelling well with interiors decorated with furnishings and fixtures of the time.
