A hand carved black Labrador retriever carved in wood by sculptor and printmaker Stephen Huneck (American, 1948-2010). The figure features a black hand painted finish with red, white, and brown detail, and an all-over carved hair-like texture. The piece is signed ‘Huneck,’ and dated 1994.

Huneck is most well known for his work Dog Chapel, a chapel he built in St. Johnsbury, Vermont after having a near-death experience. Dog Chapel is filled with Huneck’s own hand-carved dog-themed furniture and decor.
