Peter Hanson Original Mid-19th Century Oil on Canvas Hudson River Valley Painting
Item Details
An original mid-19th century oil painting on canvas by listed artist Peter Hanson (1821-1887). Hanson was born in Denmark and moved to New York around 1847, where he was inspired by the surrounding landscape and began creating work as part of the treasured Hudson River School. This painting has all of the trademarks of a Hudson River School landscape — a luminist sky glows behind a series of rolling hills, with only a small hint of human life, here exhibited in a small cottage on the far banks of a flat body of water. The painting is signed to the lower left corner by the artist. It is presented in its original Hudson River frame, made of wood with ornate cast embellishments and natural finish. A hanging wire is attached to the verso.
