Three Vintage Boxes of Packaged Marbles

Item Details

A group of three vintage boxes of packaged marbles. The first box of marbles was manufactured by the ‘Akro Agate’. There are ten marbles in this box. The Akro Agate Company was formed in 1910 in Akron, Ohio. It was moved to Clarksburg, West Virginia, in 1914, where it remained until its bankruptcy in 1951. The second box of marbles was manufactured by the ‘Master Glass Company’. This original box contains thirty-three used marbles. The Master Marble Company was founded in 1930 by four former employees of the Akro Agate Company. The company closed in 1941 and the machinery was purchased by one of the former owners who formed The Master Glass Company. The third box was sold by the ‘Ravenswood Novelty Company’, but the box was filled with ‘Champion Agate Company’ swirled marbles in West Virginia. These marbles are used and the box contains fifty-nine marbles, many not original. The Champion Agate Company started in 1938 in Pennsboro, West Virginia. Swirl marbles were part of Champion’s regular run from 1938 up into the early to middle 1970s.
