Item Details
An original 1876 oil painting on canvas. The painting depicts a woman in profile wearing dark period clothing; a sheer white veil covers her face, and she is set against a pale brown background. The painting is unsigned. Blacklight reveals inpainting to several areas of the painting, though none to the figure’s face. Blacklight also reveals that the piece is dated ‘May 1876’ to the right center edge and has been painted over. The painting is presented in a wooden frame with various metallic finishes and a hanging wire.
Condition
- two large vertical rips to canvas. Blacklight reveals inpainting along lower edge, as well as a date to the right edge that has been painted over.
