E.G. Harrell 1906 Maritime Oil Painting on Canvas
Item Details
An original 1906 oil painting on canvas by an artist named E.G. Harrell. The stunning painting is completed with remarkable care and accuracy reminiscent of many of the master maritime paintings of this period. The painting depicts a large sailboat prominently hoisting the ‘Tricolor Pennant’ signal flag. Signal flags were often flown before the creation of radio technology; each pattern or color represented a different internationally accepted message. A second sailboat can be seen in the distance, and both ships float on a choppy gray body of water set against a pale clouded sky. The painting is signed and dated in red to the lower right. It is presented in a wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, gold-tone finish, and a hanging wire.
